*
Immigration Department

Two Mainland women who entered into bogus marriages have been jailed for up to 16 months by Sha Tin Magistracy.

Lai Yanmei, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud and one count of making a false representation to an Immigration Officer. She was jailed for 15 months.

She was stopped at the China Ferry Terminal checkpoint on March 7. She admitted she had contracted a bogus marriage with a Hong Kong resident for 10,000 renminbi to obtain a 90-day visa. She married her bogus husband on the Mainland in March 2006. Lai then made visits to Hong Kong after the 'marriage', falsely declaring to the Immigration officers that she came to visit her 'husband'.
