Alert issued on bogus phone system

*
Monetary Authority

People should beware of telephone number 6631 8558 from a fraudulent voice response unit, which asks Nanyang Commercial Bank customers to register their account number and personal identification numbers, the Monetary Authority says.

The bank has clarified that it has no connection with the fraudulent phone system, and the case has been reported to Police.

People who have offered personal information via the phone system, or who have had financial transactions through it, should call the bank on 2622 2633, or Police on 2860 5012.

Consumers should be alert to the possibility of similar fraudulent voice response units claiming to represent other banks or financial institutions. They should also exercise care in giving out personal or account information.
