$25m in smuggled goods seized
*
Hong Kong Police

Marine Police seized $25 million worth of suspected smuggled goods at To Kwa Peng in Sai Kung in an anti-smuggling operation last night.

At about 8pm, Small Boat Division officers spotted two unlit speedboats with cargo onboard travelling northeast from the Tap Mun area, about to leave Hong Kong waters.

When officers signaled the speedboats to stop, they accelerated. After a chase, the five men on board ran their crafts aground and fled ashore at To Kwa Peng.

Suspected smuggled goods including animal furs, leather, used mobile phones, digital cameras and LCD panels were found onboard the speedboats, with an estimated value of more than $25 million.

The case was handed over to the Customs & Excise Department for follow-up.
