Info sought on $600k street swindle

*
Hong Kong Police

Police are probing a street deception case in which a 56-year-old woman was swindled out of $600,000 by two women in Tsuen Wan on Tuesday.

The victim met one of the women at Yeung Uk Road Market around 8am. The swindler convinced the victim she had magical powers that would double her money.

At about noon, the victim withdrew the $600,000 in cash from a bank and handed it to the woman at Kwok Shui Road Park. Eventually, the money was swapped for joss paper.

The swindler is believed to be in her 30s. She is thin, about 1.53 meters tall, with short straight hair. She was wearing a pink, long-sleeved T-shirt and was carrying a black leather handbag.

A woman accomplice is believed to have helped the swindler. She is about 50 years old, thin, about 1.58 metres tall, with short curly hair dyed blonde. She was wearing a light brown, long-sleeved T-shirt.

Police urge the public to beware of such street deceptions. Anyone who saw the incident should call 2417 5314.
