Supermarket supervisor jailed

ICAC

Former Wellcome supermarkets supervisor David Wong has been jailed nine months by Eastern Magistracy for accepting bribes, which included $10,000 cash and four mobile phones from food suppliers.

Magistrate Winston Leung ordered the 44-year-old to return $35,300 and a mobile phone to Wellcome.

The defendant was responsible for managing pork, beef and poultry supplies to Wellcome. During the Lunar New Year period last year, a meat supplier gave him a $10,000 laisee packet. In May the same year, he got a mobile phone from the supplier. Between June 2004 and October 2005, he also accepted three other mobile phones, as well as massage and sexual services paid for by another meat and fish supplier.

Officers arrested the defendant last November and recovered $24,000 and a mobile phone from his residence, which were part of the bribes.
