Driving student jailed for exam bribe
*
ICAC

A driving student has been jailed four months for offering a $500 lai see packet to a Transport Department examiner.

Fong Fong, 51, today pleaded guilty at Kowloon City Magistracy to one count of offering an advantage. Magistrate Tong Man said it was a serious offence, and took into consideration her guilty plea in meting out the term.

Shortly after her test began on May 8 at the Pui Ching Road Driving Test Centre in Ho Man Tin, Fong stopped the car at a red traffic light and put the lai see on the examiner's seat, telling him it was a 'greeting gift'.

The examiner told her four times that he could not accept the packet, before she finally took it back and completed the test. She failed after making three serious mistakes. He then reported the incident and Fong was arrested.
