The Security Bureau says Mainland authorities are considering introducing a channel to facilitate more adult Mainlanders with genuine need to come to Hong Kong to take care of their parents.
Officials from the bureau and the Immigration Department met with some right-of-abode seekers' parents on June 17 and today to listen to their views and aspirations.
The bureau reiterated that it will act in strict accordance with the Court of Final Appeal's judgment on major right of abode cases, adding that all people who have no right of abode in Hong Kong have to return to the Mainland.
Noting eligible people might apply for one-way permits to settle in Hong Kong, the bureau said it will not expand the scope of the concession policy and there will not be any amnesty.
In response to the claimants' demand, the Government has raised with Mainland authorities the possibility of introducing a channel to facilitate more adult Mainlanders with genuine need to come to Hong Kong to take care of their parents.
Since the existing One-way Permit Scheme is implemented in accordance with Mainland laws and regulations, any change requires careful deliberation so it can continue to be implemented in a lawful and fair manner.
While the Government has reflected the matter to the Mainland authorities, the final decision vests with them.
