Nineteen Hong Kong residents evacuated from the Solomon Islands and their 20 family members have arrived in Hong Kong from Guangzhou. Each family will receive $8,000 from the Home Affairs Department for emergency use.

Speaking at Lok Ma Chau checkpoint today, Assistant Director of Immigration David Chiu said the Immigration Department has received four requests for help so far. Two Hong Kong residents insist on staying in Papua New Guinea, and the department will monitor their situation.

Of the 20 family members that have returned, 18 are Solomon Islands passport holders while two are Chinese passport holders. Those without right of abode in Hong Kong have been allowed to stay for 90 days.

The Social Welfare Department will provide psychological counselling services and other help. But as they will stay with friends or families, there is no need to arrange accommodation at Lei Yue Mun Park Village.
