Sea seizure: Marine Police seized 2 million smuggled video compact discs worth about $35 million on a vessel off north of East Ping Chau.

Marine Police have arrested two men following the seizure of 2 million smuggled video compact discs worth about $35 million on a vessel north of East Ping Chau.

At about 10.40pm yesterday, small boat division officers spotted an unlit cargo vessel heading north off East Ping Chau. They stopped it and escorted it back to East Ping Chau pier for questioning.

About 2 million video compact discs in 1,363 boxes with a total market value of about $35 million were found on the vessel. They arrested the two men on board the vessel, aged 55 and 51, since they could not produce a manifest for the cargo.

The Customs & Excise Department is following up on the case.
