Anti-drink driving campaign to launch

*
Hong Kong Police

Police will launch a territory-wide Road Safety Campaign from tomorrow to February 1 to enhance public awareness of road safety. They urge drivers to remember: If you drink, don't drive.

Officers will distribute publicity leaflets at bar areas appealing people not to drive after drinking. They will also step up enforcement action.

There were 15,035 traffic accidents in 2005, nine more than in 2004. Among these cases, 87 involved drink driving.

People who drink and drive will be liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and three years' imprisonment. They may be penalised 10 driving-offence points or disqualified from driving.
