Sea seizure: Electronic components were found on the abandoned speedboat.

Marine Police have seized $5 million worth of smuggled electronic goods near Basalt Island, Sai Kung.

 

About 8am today officers spotted 11 speedboats moving east of the Ninepin Group. They ignored signals to stop and fled towards Mainland waters.

 

One coxswaine abandoned his vessel and was picked up by another speedboat.

 

The abandoned speedboat had 112 plastic-wrapped boxes and three sacks of contraband were found. They included a projector, digital cameras, digital video cameras, camera lenses, computer hard disks, electronic components, semi-conductors, mobile telephone batteries, chargers and rechargebale batteries.

 

The case has been transferred to the Customs & Excise Department for follow-up action.
