Sai Kung crash claims cyclist's life

A 38-year-old cyclist died after his bicycle reportedly collided with a public light bus in Sai Kung at around 9.30am this morning.

 

Police say the bus was travelling uphill on Hoi Ha Road towards Sai Kung town area when the accident occured.

 

Near Pak Sha O Youth Hostel, the bus overtook a bicycle ahead by crossing into the opposite lane where another bicycle was travelling downhill. The bus and bicycle swerved into the uphill lane and reportedly collided with each other.

 

The cyclist sustained serious head injuries and was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital where he was certified dead at 10.51 am.

 

The 39-year-old bus driver was later arrested for dangerous driving causing death and released on bail.

 

The Kowloon East Traffic special investigation team is following up. Anyone who saw the accident is urged to contact the investigating officers at 2305 7500 or 2305 7570.
