Customs seized 5,200 pieces of counterfeit goods worth about $4.1 million and arrested five men and two women, aged between 21 and 53, when raiding two commercial units in Hung Hom and Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday.

The units were used for selling counterfeit goods to Korean and Japanese tourists.

Acting on complaints that a shop in a Hung Hom commercial building was used for selling counterfeit goods to overseas visitors on package tours, Customs  found the shop only received Korean tourists referred by familiar tourist guides.

Customs officers seized from this shop 3,600 pieces of counterfeit goods valued at about $2.1 million, including garments, handbags and watches. Two men and two women, aged between 21 and 50, were arrested. One of the women, 43, is a tourist guide.

Following up another complaint that counterfeit handbags were sold in a commercial unit in Tsim Sha Tsui, Customs officers found the shop lured tourists in the street by way of "sale of brand name goods".

About 1,600 counterfeit goods including garments, handbags, watches and phone straps worth about $2 million were were seized from this shop.

Three men, aged 39 to 53, were arrested.

It is believed that the two alleged shops were unrelated.

The arrested people are now on bail pending further investigation.
