People intending to travel abroad during the summer holidays should apply for travel documents as early as possible to avoid a last-minute rush, the Immigration Department says.

Anticipating the number of people travelling abroad will increase during the summer time, the department advised people to apply for Hong Kong passports well in advance of their trips

Applications for passports can be submitted to the department by post or placed in the drop-in boxes at Immigration headquarters and all Immigration branch offices.

Applicants who wish to submit applications for Hong Kong passports in person are encouraged to book an appointment at Immigration branch offices by calling 2598 0888, or through the EDSlife website.

The normal processing time for the passport is 15 working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and general holidays.

To date, 134 countries and territories have granted visa-free access to Hong Kong passport holders.
