Illicit guesthouse operator fined
*

A man has been fined $10,000 for operating an illicit guesthouse in Tsim Sha Tsui.

He was convicted at Kwun Tong Magistracy today. The Office of the Licensing Authority and Police raided the unlicensed guesthouse on Nathan Road last November. They found eight guestrooms furnished with beds. Some lodgers alleged the rooms were rented from a man in another guesthouse in the same building.

The operator admitted he offered rooms at the unlicensed premises and was charged with contravening the Hotel & Guesthouse Accommodation Ordinance.

The Home Affairs Department urged the public to report unlicensed guesthouses on 2881 7498.
