Trafficker jailed for record drug seizure

*
Hong Kong Police

A 32-year-old man has been jailed 16 years by the High Court for his involvement in a record cocaine seizure. He was sentenced today on two counts of trafficking.

The court heard that following intensive investigations into a drug trafficking syndicate, Police Narcotics Bureau officers mounted an operation in Mong Kok at about 2pm

He was arrested while boarding a private car in Ki Lung Street, Mong Kok, on April 14 last year, and a 1kg block of cocaine was found in his possession. A subsequent search of a flat on Cedar Street led to the seizure of 27 blocks of cocaine weighing 20.5kgs, 189gs of ketamine, and 274 ecstasy tablets.

The seizure, worth about $35 million, is the largest of its kind leading to an arrest in Hong Kong.
