Tsunami death toll hits 24

*

The death of one more missing Hong Kong resident has been confirmed in the tsunami through the victim identification process, bringing the death toll to 24.

Meanwhile, 16 Hong Kong residents, all reported to be in Thailand, are still missing. The Government will continue follow up outstanding cases and provide practical assistance to Hong Kong residents and their families where necessary.

Police have contacted relatives of missing Hong Kong residents to collect DNA samples for analysis on a voluntary basis. Analysed DNA information as well as finger print records have been sent to the Thai authorities through the appropriate channel for identification purpose.

Hong Kong residents may call the Immigration Department's hotline 2829 3010 for assistance.
