The Government will offer every practical assistance to a Hong Kong tour group involved in a fatal traffic accident in Jioufen, Taiwan.
Initial reports said a bus carrying over 30 Hong Kong tourists plunged down a slope. Five were reportedly killed. The injured were sent to two hospitals.
The Government has contacted the travel agency concerned and has liaised with Taipei authorities.
Speaking at the Hong Kong International Airport, Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam said four colleagues from Hong Kong will fly to Taipei, two from the Immigration Department and two from the Hospital Authority.
"We believe that once they have arrived in Taipei, they will be received by the Taiwanese side," he said.
After visiting those who were injured in the accident, they will make an assessment as to what assistance they need.
"We will make arrangements as soon as possible for those who have been injured and those who unfortunately have passed away to be returned to Hong Kong," Mr Lam added.
"We shall do everything possible to facilitate their return."
Concerned relatives can call the Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline 2829 3010 for assistance.
