6 triad members jailed

*
Hong Kong Police

The District Court has sentenced 10 men, aged 15 to 42, convicted of triad offences. Six were jailed for up to 28 months, while the other four were sent to rehabilitation, training, a detention centre or put under probation order.

Police conducted an undercover operation to investigate a triad society active in Kolwoon West in March 2002. The operation turned overt in September last year resulting in the arrest of over 60 people.

Ten of the arrested were subsequently charged with triad-related offences, including claiming to be or acting as a triad society member, and were convicted at the court on July 20.
