Man charged for prison bribe
*
ICAC

The ICAC has charged a man for allegedly offering $50,000 to a Correctional Services officer for introducing cigarettes and cash into Lai Sun Correctional Institution.

Lee Kin-wai, 20, will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistracy tomorrow to face a count of offering an advantage to a public servant. Lee also faces a count of conspiracy to incitement with Au Siu-mui, 51, a housewife who will also appear.

Lee is alleged to have offered $50,000 to an assistant officer on May 27 as a reward for bringing, introducing or conveying money and tobacco into the facility.

Lee and Au allegedly conspired together to unlawfully incite the officer to bring, introduce or convey into the institution a sum of money not authorised by the Commissioner of Correctional Services.

Lee allegedly arranged for Au to hand $200,000 cash to the officer. It is alleged $50,000 of the money was the bribe for the officer, while the remainder was to be introduced by the officer to the institution for Lee.

The officer refused the bribe, and the matter was referred to the ICAC.
