Man charged for drug trafficking

*
Hong Kong Police

Police have charged a man for drug trafficking after seizing 9kg of MDMA powder in Sheung Shui. MDMA is the major ingredient in ecstasy. The 31-year-old man will appear in Fanling Magistracy tomorrow.

At about 2.15pm yesterday, officers stopped him as he was lifting two paper bags from the boot of his car in a carpark on Chi Cheong Road in Sheung Shui.

Officers found three gift-wrapped paper boxes in the bags, each containing a bag with 3kg of MDMA. The 9kg seized could be used to make 72,000 ecstasy tablets worth $5.4 million.

Police believe the powder was smuggled from Europe into Hong Kong for local consumption.
