Customs officers have seized 130,000 pieces of suspected counterfeit mobile phone accessories, valued at $8.5 million, from a container at the Kwai Chung Container Terminal.
During a cargo inspection at the terminal yesterday morning, the officers searched the container on board a river trade vessel from Huangpu.
They found suspected counterfeit mobile phone accessories, including batteries and cartridges. The container was destined for Buenos Aires.
Investigations are underway and no arrest has been made.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, anyone importing or exporting goods with a forged trademark is liable to a maximum fine of $500,000 and five years' imprisonment.
