Warning issued on bogus bank website

*
Monetary Authority logo

The Monetary Authority has warned consumers of a suspected fraudulent bank website, www.swissroyalbank.com. The site is operated by an alleged 'Swiss Royal Bank', which claims it offers banking services in Hong Kong.

The alleged entity is not authorised under the Banking Ordinance to conduct banking business or take deposits in Hong Kong, nor does it have the approval to establish a local representative office.

Police are investigating the case. Anyone who has had dealings with the alleged 'Swiss Royal Bank', or has provided personal information to the website, or has conducted any financial transactions through it should contact Police on 2860 5012.

Consumers are reminded to verify the status of any organisation making use of the Internet to solicit deposits. A list of authorised institutions is available on the authority's website. They can also call 2878 8222 to check the status of any entity in Hong Kong which solicits deposits from the public.
