Welfare officer charged by ICAC

*
ICAC

A Social Welfare Department officer has been charged for allegedly swindling $3,000 from a Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipient.

Liu Tin-luk, 45, will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistracy tomorrow to face one count of obtaining property by deception.

The case arose from a corruption complaint referred by the department. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the alleged deception offence.

Liu is accused of dishonestly obtaining the money from a 61-year-old woman on November 26, 2002.

Liu had falsely represented to the victim he would forward the money to the department to offset assistance which had been overpaid to her.
