Police urge July 1 procession patience
*
Hong Kong Police

Police urge July 1 procession participants to be patient and heed officers' advice on crowd management and traffic arrangements.

A tidal-flow system will be implemented around Victoria Park for participants to assemble.

As the procession will start on a 'first-come, first-start' basis, participants are advised to enter the park via the Hing Fat Street and Inner Gloucester Road entrances. They should not gather at or block the starting point of the procession, in particular around Causeway Road, Yee Wo Street, Paterson Street and East Point Road.

Those who do not wish to start the procession at Victoria Park are urged to wait along Hennessy Road west of Percival Street and then join in accordance with the advice given by Police at the scene or the organiser's marshals.

If there comes a need to close both the east and west bound carriageways along the procession route, Police will reserve the tram lane as the emergency vehicle passage. Participants are advised not to occupy the tram lane.

Patience urged

Due to the confined environment of the Central Government Offices compound, Police urge participants to wait at the inner lane of Queen's Road Central until there is room to proceed. For those who do not wish to reach the compound, they can disperse at Ice House Street.

Subject to crowd size, there may be a need to implement more road closures. Police will regularly inform the public of the latest traffic bulletins via the electronic media.

As substantial road closures and traffic diversions are expected to last for some time, Police advise those going to the airport and the HK-Macau Ferry Pier to start their journey early to avoid congestion.

A large number of bus services will be re-routed and operators will post notices at affected stations to inform passengers of temporary bus stop locations.

People are urged to use public transport to go to Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central. Police will re-open closed roads in phases after the procession.
