Caution urged over suspicious website

*
Monetary Authority logo

The Monetary Authority warns of a suspected fraudulent website with the domain name www.asiacenturyhk.com.

The site is operated by an alleged "Asiacentury Bank", which is not authorised under the Banking Ordinance to conduct banking business or take deposits in Hong Kong, nor does it have the approval to establish a local representative office.

The authority has referred the case to Police for investigation and action.

Anyone with dealings with Asiacentury Bank, or who have provided their personal information to the website, or have conducted any financial transactions through the site should contact Police on 2860 5012.

Given the global nature of the Internet, people are reminded to verify the status of any organisation soliciting online deposits from the public.

A list of authorised institutions is available on the authority's website. Consumers can also check the status of any entity in Hong Kong which solicits deposits by calling 2878 8222.
