Crime fighters: Acting Commissioner of Police Gordon Fung lauds Good Citizen Award recipients Kwai Sze-kit, Fung Kwong-chung, Chan Man-cheong and Leung Lun-chiu.

Forty brave citizens have been commended for helping Police fight crime. Thirty-five men and five women were lauded today at the Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony. With their help, 40 culprits were arrested for a variety of offences relating to arson, wounding, robbery, indecent assault, burglary and theft.

Kwai Sze-kit, Fung Kwong-chung, Chan Man-cheong and Leung Lun-chiu helped Police net an arsonist who lit a bottle of thinner inside an MTR train travelling from Tsim Sha Tsui to Admiralty on January 5.

Wong Yue-pok helped Police arrest a man who abducted a seven-year-old girl in Wong Tai Sin on February 6. He recognised him from an identikit picture and followed him, reporting his whereabouts to Police.

During the ceremony, all recipients were presented a certificate and a $2,000 cheque. Commending their courage, alertness and initiative, Acting Commissioner of Police Gordon Fung said they set a good example for other citizens.

New fight crime commercial to be aired

The ceremony saw the premiere of a new TV commercial to kick off the Fight Crime Publicity Campaign 2004-05.

The commercial, with Cantonese and English versions, called on people to use their own powerful weapons - eyes, ears, mouth and hands - to be alert and report crime to Police, and will be aired on TV and radio from today.
