ICAC officer charged for deceit

*
ICAC

An ICAC officer appeared at Eastern Magistracy today, facing charges of obtaining sick leave by deceit.

Senior Investigator Susana Chan, 42, is charged with one count of fraud, alleging she deceptively induced the ICAC to grant her sick leave and pay her monthly salary and all other contractual allowances entitled to her, between November 29, 2002 and December 3 last year.

She allegedly falsely represented she was unable to perform her duties because she was suffering from a medical condition for which it was recommended she be granted the leave.

Chan also faces four alternative charges of an agent using a document with intent to deceive her principal. They allege she used sick leave certificates containing false statements on four occasions between December 2, 2002 and September 17 last year.

No plea was taken and Magistrate Ian Candy adjourned the case to July 2, pending transfer to the District Court. The defendant was granted $3,000 bail and ordered not to leave Hong Kong, and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
