Beware of bogus website www.asiacentury.net

Beware of a suspected fraudulent website with the domain name www.asiacentury.net, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority warns.

The website is operated by an alleged "Asiacentury Bank" which claims its head office is in Hong Kong and that it offers banking services.

"Asiacentury Bank" is not authorised under the Banking Ordinance to carry on banking business or the business of taking deposits in Hong Kong, nor does it have the approval to establish a local representative office, the authority said.

The authority has referred the case to the Police for further investigation.

Anyone who has dealings with the alleged "Asiacentury Bank", or provided his or her personal information to the website, or has conducted any financial transactions through the website should contact any local Police Station or the Commercial Crime Bureau at 2860 5012.

Be wary of online claims

Given the global nature of the Internet, the public is reminded to verify the status of any organisation making use of it to solicit deposits.

A list of authorised institutions is available on the authority's website

The authority's public enquiry hotline, 2878 8222, will confirm the status of any entity in Hong Kong that solicits deposits from the public.
