Chief Justice expresses grief at advocate's death
*

Chief Justice Andrew Li paid a special tribute to Advocate Oswald Cheung who passed away this morning, describing him as one of the most distinguished Hong Kong citizens in the second half of the 20th century.

Paying his tribute in open court this afternoon at the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Li said Sir Cheung was the doyen of the Bar.

"At the Bar, he was the pre-eminent advocate of his generation and he always gave encouragement, help and support to young practitioners," Mr Li said.

"In public life, he served with great distinction in many offices and positions. He was a man of great warmth and generosity. We shall all miss him."
