KMB to conduct safety review
*

KMB has been asked to submit a detailed report within the next few days after two major traffic accidents involving the company's buses in three months.

Commissioner for Transport Robert Footman called KMB Managing Director John Chan to a meeting today to express Government's concern about Saturday's accident on the West Kowloon Expressway.

He asked KMB to conduct a thorough review of safety arrangements, including driver training and vehicle maintenance, and submit a full report within three months.

KMB has agreed to make recommendations on measures to enhance road and passenger safety and minimise the chance of accidents.

The company was reminded of the obligation under section 12 of the Public Bus Services Ordinance to provide a proper and efficient bus service to the satisfaction of the commissioner at all times during its franchise period.

The Transport Department has asked other franchised bus operators to conduct a similar safety review.
