*

Two monks were found dead in a Tsuen Wan monastery yesterday morning.

A 22-year-old maintenance worker called Police at about 8.45am after he found an 84-year-old monk lying in a pool of blood under the staircase of a dormitory in the monastery on Fu Yung Shan. Police officers found another monk, aged 53, lying inside a bathroom.

The two monks were certified dead at the scene.

The 84-year-old man had a broken skull, bruises and cuts on his left eye, and some chop wounds on both hands. Two bloodstained knives found near his body.

The other monk had been stabbed in the chest and had cuts on his left hand. There was a pickaxe next to him.

Autopsies will be conducted on Monday tomorrow to discover the causes of their deaths.

Investigations by the New Territories North Regional Crime Unit are proceeding.
