Anti-triad operation nets 414 in West Kowloon
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested 414 people, including 308 two-way permit holders and eight illegal immigrants, in a joint anti-crime operation that ended early this morning.

Police officers from Kowloon West Region, together with officers from the Immigration Department, Customs & Excise Department and Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority began the exercise, codenamed "Jawbone", at 7am yesterday.

They picked up 105 men and 309 women aged 17 to 70 for offences including illegal gambling, possession of dutiable cigarettes, obscene and pirated video compact discs, trafficking in dangerous drugs and vice-related activities.

Officers also seized about 150,000 pirated or obscene video compact discs worth about $2.5 million, 53,000 cigarettes, some dangerous drugs and around $10,000 in cash.

Police plan similar operations on a regular basis to stem triad-related activities and curb their sources of income.
