Typhoon shelter to admit larger vessels

Marine Department

A notice seeking to relax the length limit for local vessels using the Hei Ling Chau Typhoon Shelter has been gazetted.

There are 14 typhoon shelters operated by the Marine Department. Local vessels more than 50-metres long are not permitted in typhoon shelters.

According to the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) (Typhoon Shelters) Regulation (Amendment of Schedule) Notice 2010, local vessels of 50 to 75 metres in length will be allowed to enter Hei Ling Chau Typhoon Shelter.

The notice will be tabled at the Legislative Council on May 26 for negative vetting, and will be effective July 24.
