Tests on liquefied petroleum gas samples sent to the Mainland and Germany have found they would not have affected vehicle performance, the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department says.
Since the recent spate of LPG vehicle breakdowns, the department has taken 14 samples from different locations, including LPG terminals and filling stations, and the fuel tank of an LPG taxi which reportedly experienced severe engine problems. They were sent to the Mainland and Germany for laboratory tests. More than 150 tests were conducted in Germany.
No vehicles in the LPG testing scheme have so far experienced engine problems relating to LPG quality. Twenty-eight taxis and two minibuses have joined the scheme. Another four minibuses are being arranged.
The task force on the alleged LPG problems, which held its fourth meeting today, is analysing the information collected and will publicise its investigation results as soon as possible.
