Pedestrian walkways proposed for shopping districts

*
Transport Advisory Committee

The Transport Advisory Committee has endorsed the development of pedestrian walkway systems in Causeway Bay and Mong Kok.

Committee Chairman Teresa Cheng said members welcomed the proposal as the system will reduce pedestrian flow at ground level, lower traffic congestion and provide a safe walking environment.

Members today also discussed a toll increase application for the Tate's Cairn Tunnel, deliberating on public acceptability, the company's financial position, the principle of obtaining reasonable but not excessive remuneration and traffic implications.

The application will be submitted to the Government for further consideration.
