Under Secretary for Transport & Housing Yau Shing-mu has met with Shek Kong Choi Yuen Tsuen villagers affected by the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link's Hong Kong section project today.

Understanding villagers' concern, Mr Yau reassured them the compensation and rehousing package will be implemented as announced earlier, and that the registration period will be extended to the end of February.

Most villagers said they want to get the compensation as early as possible to help them plan their future. The Government will provide them with necessary assistance and complete the registration and vetting process as soon as possible.

While some villagers asked whether relocating the whole village was possible, Mr Yau told them neither the compensation package the Executive Council approved nor the Legislative Council's funding approval provide for such an option.

More than 120 households have already registered with the Government. It will continue to communicate with those who have not yet registered and help those wishing to continue farming activities to identify suitable agricultural land. About 150 households will be subject to land resumption under the project.

Mr Yau thanked the LegCo for endorsing the project funding on January 16 to allow its early implementation, adding government departments will conduct the work as quickly as possible.
