Probe launched into Quarry Bay lift breakage
*
Electrical & Mechanical Services Department

The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department is investigating a lift incident at the Westlands Centre in Quarry Bay today.

The department's preliminary checks found one of the six suspension cables of Lift No.2 at the Westlands Centre was broken. The safety protection system was activated and stopped the lift. There were no casualties.

The last annual examination of the lift was conducted last May.

The maintenance contractor and the lift's original supplier, Schindler Lifts (HK), have been checking the other 10 lifts at the centre.

The company must submit an incident report to the department by March 19.
