An infrastructure career expo offering 1,000 posts will be held from March 24 to 26, Secretary for Development Carrie Lam says.
Speaking on a radio talk show this morning, Mrs Lam said about 90% of the vacancies on offer are professional and technical posts and some trainee and apprentice posts will be available for graduates to apply.
Since the expo targets professional and technical jobs, no on-site interviews will be conducted. Job seekers must submit their qualification documents for scrutiny and will be invited to attend interviews individually.
More jobs to be created
On Operation Building Bright which aims to help repair old buildings, Mrs Lam said the $1 billion programme will run for two years to provide subsidies and one-stop technical assistance to help owners of 1,000 old buildings conduct repairs. It will create about 10,000 construction and renovation jobs.
Owners of each unit will get a grant of 80% of the cost to repair common areas, subject to a $16,000 cap, without an assets or means test. Owner-occupiers aged 60 or above can receive a grant covering the full repair cost, subject to a $40,000 ceiling.
A proposal will be presented to the Legislative Council's Development Panel for discussion. The Government will seek fund approval in April to launch the operation in May.
The Government will create more jobs by launching more infrastructure projects and minor works. The proposed establishment of a Development Opportunities Office will also trigger jobs creation as it will provide one-stop consultation and co-ordination services to facilitate private development projects.
