Secretary for Development Carrie Lam will lead a delegation to Tokyo tomorrow to get first-hand information on how that city undertakes urban regeneration, with a view to contributing to the Urban Renewal Strategy review.
During the trip, the group will meet the Urban Renewal Association of Japan, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials and academia to learn more about urban renewal and heritage preservation in the city.
They will also visit urban regeneration projects such as the Roppongi Hills, Meiji Yasuda Seimei Building and Omotesando Hills.
The Development Bureau began the Urban Renewal Strategy last July and commissioned the University of Hong Kong to study urban renewal policies and practices in six Asian cities. Based on the findings, the bureau and the Urban Renewal Authority decided to visit Tokyo and Shanghai to get information and exchange views with the officials involved.
The authority chairman will lead another delegation to Shanghai from March 26 to 28. Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong on February 10.
