Ex-quarry site marked for housing
*

The former Anderson Road Quarry site in Kwun Tong north - the land below Anderson Road and above Po Lam Road - has been identified as a potential site for housing development, the Town Planning Board says.

Releasing the approved Kwun Tong (North) outline zoning plan today, the board said the 171-hectare planning area is bisected by Anderson Road. The land above occupied by the quarry is under a quarry and rehabilitation control up to late 2013, while the land below Po Lam Road has been developed into Po Tat Estate.

About 25 hectares will be developed into residential housing, including the seven sites below Anderson Road which are subject to development restrictions.

To facilitate quarry operation and rehabilitation works above Anderson Road, as well as the landscaping for the slopes around the ex-quarry site development platforms, about 107 hectares is zoned mining and quarrying uses and amenity area.

Public facilities

About 4.5 hectares is zoned for the provision of Government, institution or community facilities, including proposed primary and secondary schools, an electricity sub-station and a freshwater pumping station.

A site near the junction of Po Lam Road and Sau Mau Ping Road is reserved for temple development and public sitting-out areas.

About 18 hectares is in a green belt area covering the steep hill slopes in the southern and northern parts to preserve their natural state. About three hectares will be an open space while the rest, about 14 hectares, is reserved for road use.

People can inspect the approved plan at the board secretariat, the planning enquiry counters in North Point and Sha Tin, the Kowloon District Planning Office, and the Kwun Tong District Office. Copies are for sale at the map publications centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. It can also be downloaded from here.
