Green tour: Secretary for Development Carrie Lam (centre) visits Federation Square in Melbourne.

The Government is pursuing a progressive development model to meet rising aspirations for quality living, Secretary for Development Carrie Lam says.

The mega infrastructure projects to be launched will allow the city to further explore and adopt sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices.

Attending the World Sustainable Building Conference in Melbourne today, Mrs Lam said the Government will work closely with the private sector to promote green and sustainable buildings in Hong Kong.

"In the next few years the Hong Kong Government will press ahead with 10 major infrastructure projects that include a number of rail projects, cross-boundary infrastructure, a cultural district and the construction of new development areas. All these aim to enhance Hong Kong's living environment and make our development more sustainable," Mrs Lam said.

Mrs Lam also officiated at the opening of the Hong Kong exhibition booth. It showcases government and private sector initiatives in sustainable construction and building in Hong Kong by showing buildings which incorporate sustainability as their core objective.

Mrs Lam also visited an office building in Melbourne to learn about the city's latest green technology. The Australia Green Building Council grades the building highly for its achievements in environmental protection.
