The Transport Department is planning a new road to cut the number of trucks using Fairview Park Boulevard to get to Tai Sang Wai.
The move comes as the department today said it has been monitoring truck, van and bicycle usage in the area and said there is no strong reason to prohibit vehicles longer than seven metres from entering Fairview Park Boulevard.
Having a new road built in the long run to meet the development needs of the area will further improve the road safety situation and ease residents' worries, it said.
In the meantime, cargo-handling operators near Fairview Park have agreed in principle to cut usage of Fairview Park Boulevard during morning peak hours as far as possible. The department will further discuss the matter with the operators.
As the new school year begins soon, Police will deploy additional traffic officers to conduct patrols near Fairview Park to enhance road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow. They will also distribute road safety leaflets to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
The department will improve traffic signs to divert more goods vehicles to Kam Pok Road, and erect more speed reduction signs and road signs at the entrance of public roads leading to Fairview Park Boulevard. It will also ask Fairview Park developers to add more traffic signs and enhance safety along the boulevard.
