Telecom adjudication scheme broached
*
Office of the Telecommunications Authority

The Office of the Telecommunications Authority is studying the feasibility of formulating an independent adjudication scheme to resolve customer disputes with telecom services operators.

The office is seeking the industry's support and working out the details of the scheme, and a pilot is now in development.

In response to complaints received by the Consumer Council on telecommunications services, the office today said it has been closely monitoring the trade. It said most consumer complaints on telecom services were contractual and billing disputes.

It said it will take appropriate regulatory action against any telecom services operator breaching licence conditions and the Telecommunications Ordinance. But it requires the independent adjudication scheme as it is not empowered by the ordinance to arbitrate disputes.
