139,000 flats expected in 5 years
*

Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Michael Suen says the estimated potential residential land supply in the next five years will be 536 hectares, producing 139,000 flats.

The exact supply is subject to market demand and other factors, like progress of land formation, land premium agreement and land exchange.

He told lawmakers today there are 26 hectares of residential sites on the application list, estimated to offer 12,000 flats, that are not yet sold.

At the end of last year, there were 59,000 unsold private flats, including 19,000 completed and 40,000 under construction.

The total area of disposed residential sites for which construction has yet to start was 36 hectares, with 10,000 flats - 5,000 from railway projects, 2,000 from Government land sale, less than 500 from Urban Renewal Authority projects and 3,000 from lease modification and land exchange - to be produced.
