Telecoms circuits tender invites bids
*
Transport Department

The Transport Department  is inviting tenders for Tuen Mun and Yuen Long Districts area traffic control system's telecom services.

Traffic flow in the areas has risen in lockstep with the rise in housing and new-town developments in recent years. Under the current signal system, each signalised junction works on its own in isolation and signal timing be adjusted only on site. The Transport Department plans to implement an area traffic control system there for more efficient management and monitoring of the road network.

The contract is for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of telecom circuits, and a five-year circuits lease.

The circuits are to transmit data between the central computer, about 245 on-site traffic controllers, and four other remote workstations. These will control and operate the area traffic control system.

Closing date: September 8

The area traffic control system will co-ordinate traffic signal timings to minimise vehicles stoppage and delay at road junctions, reducing journey times and improving the road network's efficiency.

The works for the provision of the circuits are scheduled to begin in November and be completed in phases within 22 months.

Delcan Arup Joint Venture has been appointed to complete the design and supervise the construction works. For tender details, click here. The closing date is September 8.
