Bustling port: Hong Kong container ports handled a total of 1,996,000 containers in April, up 8.6% over a year earlier.

Hong Kong container ports handled a total of 1,996,000 containers in April, up 8.6% over a year earlier. Taking the first four months of this year together, the container throughput went up 5%, to 7,319,000 containers.

 

The Port Development Council said the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals recorded a throughput of 1,296,000 containers last month, a 10.8% increase over a year earlier. The throughput of other terminals went up 4.6%, to 700,000 containers.

 

Taking the first four months together, the throughput of Kwai Tsing Container Terminals went up 7% over the same period last year, with 4,759,000 containers handled. Other terminals recorded a 1.4% rise, with a throughput of 2,559,000 containers.
