Additional ferry and bus services will be provided for people viewing the Bun Festival and Bun Scrambling Competition on Cheung Chau, and the Transport Department Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will be activated to monitor demand.
The Bun Scrambling Competition, a traditional event that was suspended 26 years ago for safety reasons, will be revived at the soccer pitch of Pak Tai Temple Playground on Cheung Chau at midnight on May 16.
New World First Ferry's Central-to-Cheung Chau service will be strengthened on Sunday, and additional sailings will be operated when required. An additional sailing by triple-deck ordinary ferry will depart from Cheung Chau to Central at 1.15am on May 16 to cater for passengers after the competition. Supplementary sailings will be arranged to meet passenger demand.
A special cross-harbour route 104R (Central Ferry to Mong Kok) will be introduced at $13.50 to serve passengers at Central Ferry Pier. Departures between 2am to 3am for overnight bus routes No. N8X (to Siu Sai Wan (Island Resort)), N90 (to South Horizon), N182 (to Kwong Yuen) and N619 (to Shun Lee) will be diverted to route via Central Ferry Pier. Passengers may also go to Des Voeux Road Central to take N6 (to Stanley), N11 (to the airport via Tung Chung), N121 (to Ngau Tau Kok), N680 (to Ma On Shan), N691 (to Ma On Shan), N962 (to Tuen Mun), N968 (to Yuen Long) and N969 (to Tin Shui Wai Town Centre).
Ferry and bus companies will arrange staff at sites to assist passengers and monitor passenger demand. TheTransport Department will closely liaise with Police, Leisure & Cultural Services Department and Islands District Office to monitor the situation. Should Cheung Chau become overcrowded, additional sailings to Cheung Chau may be suspended.
