The Drainage Services Department has awarded a $160 million contract to Leader Civil Engineering Corporation for improvement works to drainage systems in Tsim Sha Tsui, To Kwa Wan, Wong Tai Sin and Yau Tong.

The contract, forming part of a $650 million drainage improvement project for East Kowloon, involves the construction of 5.6km of stormwater drains and associated works. Upon completion, the hydraulic capacity of the drainage systems will be substantially increased, reducing flood risk.

To minimise traffic disruption, the department will liaise with the Transport Department and Police to ensure appropriate management measures are in place during construction.

The works start today for completion in October 2008.
