Road closure decision prudent, necessary
*

Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao says prompt action has been taken to handle the scaffolding collapse on Prince Edward Road in San Po Kong and remove fallen trees, adding road closures will  be made only when necessary.

Speaking to the press at the Central Government Offices, Dr Liao said relevant government departments implemented contingency measures and made announcements immediately after these incidents which led to traffic jams in different places yesterday.

She stressed the road closures were required as the Buildings Department had to confirm the structural safety of the scaffolding while staff had to remove fallen trees. She called on drivers to remain patient as traffic jams are expected on rainy days.
